A new initiative for 2010,

TRAD IN THE PARK

had a very successful start in March with a group of young musicians gathering at Highland Adventure, Glenisla, for a weekend of team-building and traditional music activities. The event culminated with a Cèilidh in the Village Hall.

Equally successful was the second Trad in the Park over the weekend of 26 - 28th November, based at Abernethy Outdoor Centre, Nethybridge.

Tutors were again James Ross and Sharon Hasson, as they were so popular last time!

The Trad in the Park participants hoped to be joined by the (slightly) older musicians of the Cairngorms Cèilidh Trail for a Cèilidh in Nethybridge Village Hall at 3.30pm on Sunday 28th November. However, the early onset of winter put paid to plans - only 2 of the older group made it and the Cèilidh had to be cancelled to allow all to travel home safely.

An extra day of tuition and group playing was arranged in Kingussie, where the young musicians were able to join the Cairngorms Cèilidh Trailers in their event at Talla nan Ros for Kingussie Arts Network on 27th December.

We hope to run some similar events in 2011.

Trad in the Park is open to young musicians - including singers - of intermediate and advanced ability, in S3 and above. The emphasis of the weekend is on group playing.
